Over the past year we have focused our compassionate efforts on reducing the occurrence of truancy in our local school systems.  We have formed a partnership with the Seattle Public Schools Truancy Office and have been assisting them with their truancy workshops since January 2010.  Youth Ambassadors serve as peer-counselors and sources of support to truant youth.  They provide encouragement and help to get the truant student excited about attending school again.  Since our partnership began, Seattle Public Schools have seen nearly sixty percent of truant students who attended workshops return to school.

Building on our success with Seattle Public Schools, we have agreed to assist the Center for Children and Youth Justice with their pilot program for truancy in the Highline District.  Our role here will be similar to that in Seattle Public Schools.  We will serve as mentors at truancy workshops in hopes of returning truant students to school.
